When I was young girl I remember watching A Woman Called Moses
on television and being so engaged and in awe of the woman, Harriett Tubman,
being portrayed by Cicely Tyson.
A woman called Moses – Harriett Tubman
Harriett Tubman, was a woman who selflessly worked and helped lead over 300 Black slaves to freedom from slavery.
Over the last few months I have struggled with finding my passion, outside the obvious of wife and mom. As I continue to define my passion, I look to women like Ms Tubman who did what she didn’t have to do, to help others.
If given the chance to interview Harriett Tubman I would have to ask her a few questions like...
Why did you keep going back to the Underground Railroad?
Didn't you get tired?
For those slaves who didn’t want to go, did you ever just want to leave them?
Why didn't you just enjoy your own freedom?
Didn't you get tired?
For those slaves who didn’t want to go, did you ever just want to leave them?
Why didn't you just enjoy your own freedom?
and
Where did you find your passion?
Where did you find your passion?
Harriett Tubman lived during a very different time than I'll never know. I don't think I would have been so steadfast.
Her faith, her resilience, her dedication,
her passion! I envy all these
traits!
Based on history it seems feasible to me that as long as she had her health and strength she could spend every day leading others to the freedom they otherwise would have never known.
I can't imagine being there when she arrived in the night to take the slaves on the journey.
Maybe that fueled her passion.
For her it wasn't about being a hero. Maybe it was knowing that
her life had purpose and she was fulfilling it every time she began a trip into
dangerous railroad in which she might not return.
As I continue my own personal journey and looking to define passion, Harriett Tubman, is a woman whose life exemplifies what I hope to find in terms of purpose.
In honor of Women's History month I encourage you to ask yourself what is my purpose? And then feel free to fill in the blank to My passion is _____________________

I so admire women from our past they have so much courage unlike some today who do more talking than more action. Love this post
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. This particular she-ro fought through many more odds than we could possibly IMAGINE! And with such passion. We can learn some great lessons from Harriet Tubman
DeleteA fantastic post, and I think most women nowadays are doing this - looking deep into their soul and discovering who they are...or who they want to be. Also, sometimes situations define us, whether we want them to or not. A lot to think about - thanks for such a thought provoking entry!
ReplyDeleteI agree. I think a lot of women are redefining their roles in life.
DeleteI was always fascinated by her story. Thanks for bringing it back to life. I think I'll rewatch the movie sometime soon. Great post by Latorsha!
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched the movie in years. However, after reading this post, I 'm going to have to watch it again.
DeleteI wish I had her fortitude and commitment!
ReplyDeleteI do, too!
DeleteI'd have to say my passion is writing. Thankfully, I make a living doing just that but I want to take it further.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing to have the passion and make a living doing that. Cheers to you!
DeleteThanks for the comments everyone! I appreciate you reading and sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks Aisha & Christine for the opportunity to stop by. ;)
Completely our pleasure. Thanks for making each of us explore our passions this week
ReplyDeleteGreat post Latorsha. Harriet Tubman is my North Star. I have so many passions and I'm grateful to be blessed to have pursued a few of them in some form or fashion.
